Patterns, Possibilities & Doll-Sized Fashion
If you've been part of the Virtual Doll Convention community for any length of time, chances are you've encountered the wonderful work of Tamara Casey, owner and creator of Designs by Jude. Tamara has been partnering with VDC for years, creating coordinating Pattern of the Month designs that allow collectors and sewing enthusiasts to expand on the themes featured in many of our subscription boxes.
One of the things we love most about Tamara's patterns is how they inspire creativity. Whether you're an experienced seamstress or just getting started, her designs give you the opportunity to create an entire wardrobe for your favorite dolls while bringing each subscription theme to life in your own unique way.
In this edition of the Designs by Jude Insider, we're taking a look at some of Tamara's recent creations for the Grace Marie Fitzpatrick Historical Subscription, along with her beautiful quarterly patterns for Ellowyne Wilde. Join us as we revisit these inspiring designs and discover a few more treasures available from Designs by Jude along the way.
One of Tamara's most glamorous recent designs for Grace Marie Fitzpatrick arrived in March 2026 with the stunning pattern, Dramatic Entrance. While the design feels perfectly at home in Grace's modern wardrobe, it also comes with a sweet personal story. Tamara shared that the inspiration was loosely drawn from a Mother of the Groom dress she nearly selected for her son's wedding. The wedding itself took place in beautiful Ireland, where family gathered to celebrate as her son married what Tamara describes as the sweetest young woman.
The resulting design captures all the elegance and excitement of a special occasion. Dramatic Entrance combines classic couture glamour with modern sophistication, creating a look that feels ready for a red carpet, gala, or grand celebration.
The ensemble features a sleek strapless evening gown that gently skims the figure, complete with a zipper back closure and a back vent for ease of movement. Layered over the gown is a dramatic overskirt coat featuring three-quarter-length sleeves, a striking stand collar, and a sweeping floor-length silhouette. The open-front design allows the contrasting gown beneath to take center stage, while a beautifully sculpted bow at the waist provides the perfect finishing touch.
It's easy to see why this pattern became such a favorite. It offers sewists the opportunity to create a truly show-stopping look for Grace—one that feels every bit as special as the occasion that helped inspire it.
Tamara followed up in April withMoto Style, a pattern created to coordinate with the fun 1950s motoring theme featured in the Grace Marie Fitzpatrick Historical Subscription. While Grace spent the month exploring the excitement and freedom of the open road, Tamara gave collectors a fashionable way to expand her wardrobe with a look that feels both vintage-inspired and surprisingly modern.
At the heart of the design is a classic moto-style jacket featuring an asymmetrical front zipper, wide collar, and decorative stud detailing that give the outfit its signature attitude. To balance the structured silhouette, Tamara incorporated a flattering peplum that adds just the right touch of feminine charm.
The coordinating slim-fit pants feature ankle zippers and create a polished, head-to-toe look that feels ready for everything from a leisurely drive through the countryside to a fashionable afternoon in town. It's a versatile pattern that can be dressed up or down depending on fabric choices, making it especially fun for sewists who enjoy putting their own creative spin on a design.
One of the things we love most about Moto Style is how it captures the spirit of the subscription theme while still feeling like a wardrobe staple collectors will reach for again and again.
In May, Tamara transported us into the world of Regency romance with Featherington House, a beautiful pattern created to coordinate with Grace's Regency-themed subscription box. Elegant and timeless, the design captures the refined fashion of the era while remaining approachable for sewists.
The pattern features a fully lined bodice with double bust darts, delicate cap sleeves, and a rounded neckline. Sewists can choose between a dramatic sweeping train or a classic floor-length hemline, making the dress suitable for a variety of occasions. Coordinating elbow-length gloves complete the ensemble, adding an extra touch of sophistication and formal elegance.
Featherington House is a lovely example of Tamara's talent for bringing historical fashion to life in doll-sized form, making it a wonderful addition to any Grace wardrobe.
For the April Ellowyne Wilde Subscription, Tamara created Oxford Society, a pattern that coordinates beautifully with Robert Tonner's Dark Academia-inspired series. Rich in vintage charm and scholarly sophistication, the design feels perfectly at home in Ellowyne's literary world.
The pattern features a tailored high-waisted skirt with a graceful flare at the hem, zipper closure, and shoulder straps layered over a delicate floral blouse with full sleeves and a narrow necktie. Together, the pieces create a refined academic silhouette that feels both timeless and fashionable. A soft beret completes the ensemble, adding the perfect finishing touch and reinforcing the classic Dark Academia aesthetic.
Oxford Society is a wonderful example of how Tamara's designs can expand a subscription theme, giving collectors even more opportunities to tell stories and build beautiful wardrobes for their dolls.
One of the things collectors and sewists love most about Tamara is how accessible she makes the hobby. In addition to creating beautiful patterns, she also maintains an active YouTube channel with more than 17,000 followers, where she shares helpful tutorials for many of her designs. Whether you're tackling one of her patterns for the first time or looking for guidance on a specific step, her videos are a wonderful resource.
Even better, Tamara regularly answers questions in the comments, creating a welcoming space where sewists can learn, share ideas, and build confidence. If you've been thinking about trying one of her patterns but aren't quite sure where to start, her YouTube channel is the perfect place to begin.
Collector Creations
One of the best parts of any pattern release is seeing the creativity of fellow collectors. Below are just a few beautiful examples of outfits made using Tamara's patterns. From fabric choices to trims and embellishments, each sewist brings their own unique vision to the design, proving that the same pattern can inspire countless different looks.
A Note from Rachel
"One of the things I've always appreciated about Tamara is her ability to take a subscription theme and expand it in a completely different direction. Sometimes I'll see a pattern she created and think, 'I wish we had thought of that!' Her creativity gives collectors even more opportunities to tell stories with their dolls and build wardrobes that feel endless."
Ready-Made Fashions: Start Collecting
While most collectors know Tamara for her wonderful sewing patterns, many are surprised to discover that she also offers a selection of ready-made fashions on her website. These beautifully handcrafted garments are sewn by Tamara herself and are ready to add directly to your doll's wardrobe—no sewing machine required!
One insider tip for VDC collectors: when a new Pattern of the Month is released, be sure to check Tamara's website right away. She often creates a small number of finished outfits based on the featured pattern, giving collectors the opportunity to own the design even if they don't sew themselves.
In addition to her Pattern of the Month creations, you'll often find an ever-changing assortment of historical gowns, everyday fashions, special occasion ensembles, and one-of-a-kind designs available for a variety of doll sizes. Since these handmade pieces are created in limited quantities, they tend to find homes quickly, making each visit to her website a bit like a treasure hunt.
Whether you enjoy sewing your own fashions or prefer a ready-made wardrobe, Tamara's shop offers something special for every type of collector.
