Artist Kathy Turner created this marvelous teddy bear paper doll set for the June 2019 Virtual Doll Convention. This is one of our favorite downloads from all of our events. This multiple page download was entirely hand-created by Kathy Turner, with the conception of the idea and the history of the bears by Rebekah Kaufman. About the bears: Teddy B and Teddy G were two anthropomorphic bears brought to life by author Seymour Campbell Eaton (1859-1916.) Teddy B was black or brown, and Teddy G was grey. Both were always dressed to the nines. These bears were introduced in 1905 as a weekly newspaper serial for children. "Teddy" bears were a cultural phenomenon at the turn of the last century, given their ties to President Theodore Roosevelt. Teddy B and Teddy G's adventures were told in rhyme and appeared in the news outlets, including the New York Times and the Chicago Daily Tribune.

All of America quickly fell in love with Teddy Band Teddy G. In a handful of years, the well-attired bear pair from Colorado toured the US from coast to coast and even Europe. Eaton's newspaper serial proved so popular that his strips were soon made into a book. Through the early 1920s, Teddy B and Teddy G would appear in more than a dozen children's publications. Their images were used on postcards, clothing, household goods, and advertising for products - including Fleischmann's Yeast. Today, first editions featuring Eaton's bears can sell for thousands of dollars, and scholars universally recognize Teddy Band Teddy G as important symbols from a critical period in American history.
